 3.8-inch Read Shell
The Confederates used captured James rifled cannon and manufactured their own ammunition for them.  This specimen is an example of a rare Read shell used in that gun.  The 3.8-inch caliber cannon was manufactured by the Confederates but in very limited quantities.  Notice the excellent rifling of fifteen lands and grooves of the 14-pounder (3.8-inch caliber) James rifle; note also the West Point style percussion fuze.
