3-inch Hotchkiss Shell Wood Fuze Adapter

This is an early Hotchkiss projectile with three flame grooves that are smaller than those usually found. A wooden fuze plug was also uncommon for this projectile in 3-inch caliber. The Hotchkiss patent date was cast into the bottom of the base cup. This Hotchkiss variety with the wooden time fuze adapter is found mostly on Virginia battlefields.
