This is thought to be an early experimental Parrott projectile.  The lead sabot differs from that of the solid shot specimen.  The pattern pictured above has a rounded base compared to the concave base mentioned.  The concave base probably expanded into the rifling too much and the rounded base was developed from this trial.  The 1 7/8" tall lead sabot has three 1.42" wide flanges that correspond to the 10-pounder (2.9-inch caliber) Parrott rifling.  A Parrott zinc time fuze plug screws easily into the fuze threads.
