This Read-Parrott pattern is usually recovered from the Atlanta Campaign Battlefields, such as the 1864 Battle of Kolb's Farm, Georgia. Projectiles of this style were manufactured at the Atlanta Arsenal. The projectile base, hidden by the very thick, brittle copper sabot, is rounded. Note the one flame groove notch cut into the copper sabot. Fired specimens that have been recovered are usually found with most of the sabot missing.
