This unfired Read-Parrott specimen was recovered from a Confederate Fort located at High Bridge, Virginia. Several hundred projectiles of various patterns were found in this cache. This pictured example has a time fuze plug made of copper. 4-pounder smoothbore cannon were originally cast at the Virginia Manufactory of Arms in the early 1800's and were subsequently rifled to 3.4-inch caliber at another site by the Confederates during the war.
