This Parrott flat nose bolt was found in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The Parrott rifles of 3-inch caliber were not delivered to the Federal army until February of 1864. The siege of Vicksburg ended on July 4, 1863; thus all 10-pounder Parrott projectiles with brass and iron sabots found on battlefields prior to February 1864, were fired from the 10-pounder Parrott rifles of 2.9-inch caliber. This type of brass sabot was cast on the projectile after the cast-iron body was removed from the mold.
