This pattern is the most common recovered 3-inch Read bolt projectile. Most specimens have been recovered from Snyder's Bluff, Mississippi. Note the copper sabot is thick and unevenly cast typically of the occasional rushed Confederate manufacture. A few projectiles of this pattern have been recovered from the 1864 Resaca, Georgia, battlefield north of Atlanta.
