Confederate  6-pounder Spherical Shell
Note the letter "G" stamped near the Confederate brass slotted fuze plug. This letter "G" indicates the site of manufacture of this projectile to be Selma Arsenal, Alabama. The interior construction of this particular shell is in the form of cast-in-lines of weakness and is commonly referred to as a polygonal cavity projectile. This type of construction is only found Confederate manufactured ordnance.
