Battery support

The battery wagon was part of the train that kept a field battery working. Bodied to carry tools, spare parts, harness, saddler's and carriage-maker's stores, and other supplies, it accompanied the guns, caissons, and forge so that repairs and replacements could be made in the field.

With the traveling forge, the battery wagon gave a battery the means to maintain its carriages, wheels, and harness on campaign.
