Fort Pitt Foundry

The Fort Pitt Foundry at Pittsburgh was a major Northern cannon works that cast heavy iron ordnance, including large Rodman columbiads, for Federal seacoast and heavy batteries.

Heavy-gun works

The Fort Pitt Foundry at Pittsburgh was one of the North's principal makers of heavy iron cannon. It cast large smoothbore columbiads, including examples of the biggest Rodman guns, for Federal seacoast and heavy batteries.

The foundry's products are among those found bearing distinctive trademarks such as A.P.W., used to mark its ordnance.
