Description
The Stafford projectile is a Confederate rifled projectile, associated with the name of C. W. Stafford, found as a solid bolt and as an explosive shell in 3-inch caliber. Like other Southern rifled projectiles, it used a sabot at the base to take the rifling.
Stafford projectiles are comparatively scarce, and attribution depends on the body and sabot form together with recovery context rather than on markings alone.
