Whitworth Pattern I, Sub-pattern II

GUN:  12-pounder Whitworth rifle, 2.75-inch caliber
LENGTH:  9 inches
WEIGHT:  8 pounds 8 ounces
CONSTRUCTION:  Case shot - iron segmented interior
SABOT:  None
FUZING:  Threaded fuze missing

This unfired non-battlefield Whitworth shell has a removable nose section which allowed iron segments to be loaded and arranged around the bursting charge. Three pins secured the nose in place.
